Household income and expenditure of farmers in Lao PDR: Comparison between rubber tree and sugarcane farmers Thai Agricultural

The objective of this study was to compare household income and expenditure between rubber tree and sugarcane farmers. The purposive sampling technique was used for data collection, and a structured questionnaire was used to interview a total of 100 farmers. A descriptive analysis was applied. The results indicated that in 2000-2010, the household income of rubber tree farmers was higher than those sugarcane farmers, especially in long run. The household consumption has increased during 2000-2010. The rubber tree farmers expensed their consumption in food item more than rice, but it was contrary for the sugarcane farmers. Sugarcane is an economic important crop of Thailand. Physiology, genetics and molecular biology of sugarcane are of our interest. A wealth of data has been produced by both computational-based and chemical reagent-based experimental works such as EST-derived SSR markers, EST-derived SNP markers, protein markers identified by 2D-gel and LC-MS. These diverse data would be integrated to describe the meaningful relationships in biological processes of sugarcane. White leaf disease of sugarcane, which is more damage to economic crops in Thailand. It is infectedby phytoplasma pathogenic and transmitted plant by leafhoppers vector. There are several symptoms that indicate the white colour, white-green and yellow leaf etc. The symptoms are affecting to sugarcane growth and yield vary according to the intensity of the symptoms. An effective nutrient management for plant cane production on sandy soil was investigated. This aimed to be a guideline of fertilizer recommendation for plant cane production on sandy soil in the Northeast of Thailand. The experiment was conducted in Ban Phai soil series at Khon Kaen Province. The experimental design was split-split plot with 3 replications. Main plots comprised 1) without soil amendment and 2) amendment with 100 kg/rai of dolomite and 1,000 kg/rai of filtercake compost. Subplots consisted of Khon Kaen 3 and LK92-11 sugarcane varieties. Sugarcane white leaf disease caused by phytoplasma is a serious problem for sugarcane production in Thailand. The pathogen can mainly be transmitted by insect vectors such as leafhoppers, and through seed cane. Planting of disease free seed cane is an important method for reducing the disease. White leaf is the most important disease of sugarcane in Thailand. To control the disease, the recommendations are to use clean seed and roguing the infected plants. Choosing planting date is one of the practical measures. The experiment was conducted in farmer’s field in Ratchaburi province where white leaf disease is commonly found. Split plot with 4 replications was used as experimental design. Main plots consisted of 3 planting dates; 17th January, 19th March and 2rd August 2007. Yield trials of sugarcane under diverse conditions are the important step of breeding procedure which can be identified the suitable variety for growing in each agro-ecological zone. The sugarcane varieties i.e. KKU99-01 and KKU99-02 were used to compare with UT94-2-483, UT95-2-156 and KK94-2-200 and 2 check varieties, K84-200 and K88-92. The objective was to evaluate yield potential and quality of 19 promising sugarcane clones compare with 6 checked cultivars, U-Thong 3, Suphanburi 80, Khon Kaen 3, LK92-11, K84-200 and K99-72 at Nakhon Sawan Field Crops Research Center during Mar 2011- Jan 2012. Eight improved clones of forage-cane were evaluated for biomass yield performance under irrigatedcondition at Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Saen campus, Nakhon Pathom during 2011-2012. The study wasdesigned with randomized complete blocks design with 4 replications in 3 crop-cycles, newly planted, first-ratoon and second ratoon that harvested at 6, 4 and 4 month after planting/ratooning, respectively. Total fresh biomass yield from 3 crop-cycles was 40.47 ton/rai. The total yield of 3 crop-cycles varied between 27.44 and 46.46 ton/rai. High biomass yield obtained from the new clones 28-2113, 28-2114 and 28-1727 that were equal to 46.46, 44.86 and 42.96 ton/rai, respectively. การพัฒนาพันธุ์อ้อยของศูนย์วิจัยและพัฒนาการเกษตรสุพรรณบุรี Thai Agricultural

Purpose of this study is to select the proper parent varieties and appropriate resulted progenies for rainfed area. The test of approved parent varieties show that the proven cross procedure had been selected 21 appropriate varieties for crossing. The clone RT 92-2 had been used as female parents and selfing. The preliminary yield trial in plant crop of sugarcane series 2007 show that there were 7 and 5 clones which had average cane yield superior to the check varieties, U Thong 8 and Suphanburi 80 respectively. The clone UT 07-317 was superior to U Thong 8 for sugar yield and C.C.S content, in set one as well as in set 2 clone UT 07-172 was superior to Suphanburi 80 for sugar yield and C.C.S contents. การศึกษาวิธีทางเขตกรรมที่ช่วยให้อ้อยทนแล้ง Thai Agricultural

Experiment was conducted to compare 4 method of Cultivation practice for cane production under drought condition at Banrai Sugar Industry Farm, Noen Kham district, Chainat province in 2009. The experimental design was RCBD with 5 replications, there were 4 treatments, i.e.:1)soil mulching by rotary plow after using ripper in interrow, 2) soil mulching by only rotary plow, 3) planted jack bean and 4)no cultivation (control). The results showed that soil moisture underground moved upward into root zone of cane when ripper was used in interrow and followed by using rotary plow for soil mulching.
